McCarthy Accuses Media of Distorting Trump’s Image, Suggests They Are Trying to Manipulate Votes

via CBS Sunday Morning

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy expressed hope that the media may start holding President Biden accountable in the same way they had treated former President Trump, in response to a question about whether the media could turn on Biden during his reelection bid.

McCarthy argued that Trump was often taken out of context by the media in a way to influence votes, while Biden has not faced the same level of scrutiny.

“I was just wondering this past week — do I have too much hope that maybe [the media] are tired of overreacting to everything Trump says and will start calling balls and strikes with Joe Biden?” Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade asked.

McCarthy said winning elections should be based on the merits of ideas rather than misleading coverage, and expressed hope the media would call “balls and strikes” fairly with Biden as they had with Trump, to have an honest debate that benefits America.

“I never give up hope on America, especially when you’re talking about the highest office in the land,” McCarthy said.

“I think you just pointing that out helps clear up quite a bit — that they always want to take a clip of what President Trump says but never all the way through. Well, that just means you are trying to cheat to get a vote. Why don’t you win on the merits of the idea and let the idea win at the end of the day? Then America will win on that basis,” he said.
