LSU Women’s Basketball Team Gets Crushed After ‘Missing’ National Anthem

via FOX

The LSU women’s basketball team lost to Iowa after their players walked off the court before the national anthem was played prior to tip-off.

LSU coach Kim Mulkey defended this as routine but said it was unintentional.

“Honestly, I don’t even know when the anthem was played. We kind of have a routine when (our players are) on the floor, and they come off at the 12-minute mark (prior to the game),” Mulkey said.

Iowa star Caitlin Clark scored 41 points in the victory.

Some noted irony in LSU’s loss given Iowa’s defeat of LSU in last year’s national championship.

Clark, a top player credited with growing interest in women’s basketball, received praise from LSU’s Hailey Van Lith and has maintained bipartisan respect without betraying political views.

“Caitlin’s very skilled… She’s a great player. She hit some tough shots. There’s not a whole lot you can do about some of the threes she hit,” LSU guard Hailey Van Lilth said.

She declined criticism of LSU player Angel Reese’s taunt last year, saying all players are competitive and she respects Reese’s game.

“I don’t think Angel should be criticized at all,” Clark said.

“I’m just one that competes, and she competed. I think everybody knew there was going to be a little trash talk in the entire tournament. It’s not just me and Angel.”

“We’re all competitive. We all show our emotions in a different way. You know, Angel is a tremendous, tremendous player. I have nothing but respect for her. I love her game—the way she rebounds the ball, scores the ball, is absolutely incredible. I’m a big fan of her and even the entire LSU team. They played an amazing game.”
