Iran Vows to Punish ‘Evil’ Israel for Attack Taking Out IRGC Terror Commander

via AFP

Several senior Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Khamenei and President Raisi, vowed revenge against Israel for an airstrike in Syria that killed senior IRGC commander Mohammad Reza Zahedi.

Zahedi was responsible for Iran’s international terrorist operations through its Quds Force.

“The evil regime will be punished by our brave men. We will make them regret this crime and other ones, by God’s will,” Khamenei said.

Iran accused the US of responsibility as Israel’s ally. Zahedi’s death deals a major blow to Iran’s proxy operations near Israel and in Lebanon.

Iran had already been angered by a previous drone strike on an Israeli city for which an Iraqi group claimed responsibility.

“After repeated defeats and failures in the face of the faith and will of the Resistance Front fighters [Hamas and other terrorists], the Zionist regime has put indiscriminate assassinations on its agenda in the struggle to save itself, but it should know that it will never achieve it sinister goals with such inhumane actions,” President Ebrahim Raisi said.

“Day by day, Israel will witness the strengthening of the resistance front and the disgust and hatred of free nations towards its own illegitimate nature. This cowardly crime will not go unanswered,” he said.

Israel has not confirmed or denied involvement in either strike.

Iran warned of responding within international law but has not specified plans.

“An important message has been sent to the US government as the sponsor of the Zionist regime [Israel]. The US must be answerable,” Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said.

“This crime will certainly not pass without the enemy receiving punishment and revenge,” a Hezbollah statement read.

Losing Zahedi is a significant setback comparable to previous US killing of Quds Force chief Soleimani.

Iran rallied public anger against Israel and proxies like Hezbollah pledged retaliation.
