Crucial Witness in Trump Impeachment Now Registered as Foreign Agent for Ukraine

via CBS News

Gordon Sondland, a key witness in Donald Trump’s 2019 impeachment inquiry, has registered as a foreign agent of Ukraine and the European Union under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA).

Sondland previously testified that Trump withheld military aid from Ukraine to pressure them to investigate Joe Biden and his son’s business dealings there.

As the former U.S. Ambassador to the EU, Sondland’s FARA registration allows him to legally represent the interests of Ukraine and EU in the U.S.

He stated there was a “quid pro quo” arrangement and that everyone was aware of Trump’s demands regarding Ukraine announcing investigations.

Trump was impeached by the House but acquitted by the Senate, after which he dismissed Sondland from his post.

“Was there a ‘quid pro quo?’ As I testified previously, with regard to the requested White House call and White House meeting, the answer is yes,” Sondland said. “Everyone was in the loop. It was no secret.”
