Megyn Kelly Finally Reveals Why She Was Ousted At NBC

via Megyn Kelly

Megyn Kelly revealed that her controversial exit from NBC News was due to a disagreement over the network’s handling of reporting on Harvey Weinstein, not her comments about Halloween costumes as was publicly stated.

Specifically, Kelly challenged on air a memo from NBC chairman Andy Lack denying they had sufficient evidence to report on Weinstein, despite Kelly having access to a script showing they did.

“[I] went on the airwaves one day and I did not criticize my boss, but I did put the lie to a memo he had put out claiming NBC did not have the reporting on Harvey Weinstein. And that’s why they spiked Ronan Farrow’s devastating report on Harvey,” Kelly said.

Three weeks later, her show was canceled.

“Remember, they had it in hand and the reporting in the news was that they spiked it because Harvey had threatened them over Matt Lauer,” Kelly said. “NBC News defended itself by saying, ‘We didn’t have it. We never had anybody go on the record with the claims against Harvey.’ And I had my hands on a script showing that they did.”

“Totally coincidentally, three weeks later I lost my show,” she said.

Kelly’s account suggests her act of journalistic integrity by contradicting the network’s narrative ultimately led to her dismissal.

It has shed light on deeper issues at NBC News at the time around suppressing investigative reporting and protecting powerful figures like Weinstein.
